This scarf depicts the Side-saddle. Originally used a way for ladies to ride their horses, this type of saddle has fallen out of favour in modern times. Before the modern era a lady had to accommodate a dress on a horse, and this was the method of doing so. The alternate title of this design is “Festival des Amazones”, and once this known all becomes clear. Designed by Henri d’Origny.
